So, after today’s results…
… I feel that it’s going to be difficult for Yoann to come back and break into the first team. Or at least it should be. The team is performing superbly without him. Now, more than ever, he’s going to need to work his ass off to be the player that we all know that he can be.
Personally, I’m glad for it. I think in the past couple seasons, he’s become complacent. Yes, I know, he’s been unlucky with all his injuries recently. But I also feel that he shouldn’t just be “gifted” the opportunity to be on the first team, just because he’s “Yoann Gourcuff”. And I also don’t think that we as his fans should have that sense of entitlement that he “deserves” it just because he is who he is.
I don’t think I’m asking too much or am even being harsh. It’s the truth. How many players, as talented and dedicated as he, have had to lose their starting spot to him? I just don’t think it’s fair. I just hope that with the way that the team has been performing, he’s going to be encouraged to train and perform at the top of his game and be competitive again.
